After six years on the market the tC has been given a new set of clothes for 2011.
But the changes aren't just skin deep, a new FF 2.5L I-4 with VVT-i engine outputting 180 hp and 174 lb-ft of torque lies under-hood. To compliment the engine an improved six-speed manual transmission is the obvious choice, but if your more of a boulevard cruiser type, a six-speed sequential-shift automatic may be your tonic.
The tC rides lower due to an updated chassis that includes specially tuned MacPherson type strut suspension up front, while in back a double-wishbone setup is used. Although lower the wheels grow in size to 18" aluminum rims with wider skins.
Inside the driver is greeted by a 3-spoke steering wheel featuring a flat bottom. Sport seats with increased bolstering sit below the standard moonroof. Turn up the volume from the steering wheel mounted controls and you'll hear sound from an AM/FM/CD/USB sound system with 8 speakers in the cabin.
On the safety front Scion has you covered with standard Anti-lock Brakes (ABS), the new tC also gains standard Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), traction control (TRAC), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA). Active front-headrests and eight airbags are also standard, including both driver and front-passenger knee airbags.
All in all the tC looks like a decent upgrade to the previous model. Although I was secretly hoping it would be an FR car based on the same chassis as the FT86, I don't feel let down, much.
