The Toyota iQ has made the voyage from other markets to bow in New York this week as a Scion.
Visually the car is very similar to its worldly cousin, the front air dam is slightly different with 3 intakes instead of one long one and the upper intake is slightly larger. Mirrors appear to be black instead of body colour and in the rear changes appear to be minor.
The Scion iQ micro-subcompact is powered by a FF 1.3L I-4 VVT-i engine producing 90 hp hooked into CVT transmission. The whole car is only inches larger than a smart Fourtwo but impressive packing effectively makes it a 3+1. The passenger seat is moved slightly ahead leaving more leg room for the rear passenger, the seat behind the driver is best for a small child or bag support. Fuel economy is expected to be in the high 30's or early 40's.
In the audio dept all iQ's come standard with 6 speakers and USB + Aux jacks controlled through steering wheel mounted audio controls.
iQ is big on safety due to its diminutive size. The iQ includes such safety systems as: Active safety features include Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), an anti-lock brake system (ABS) with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA) and Traction Control (TRAC).
Standard are 10 SRS airbags, including the world's first rear-window curtain airbag. Other airbags include driver- and front-passenger airbags; driver- and front-passenger seat-mounted side airbags; side curtain airbags; driver- and front-passenger knee airbags; and a Scion-first driver seat-cushion airbag.
Prices were not made available but the car should make an appearance in early 2011 at your local Scion dealership.
