Should you move up to the more upscale GS model you'll be looking at $18,195. The MSRP is very impressive since the U.S. revealed their pricing as well today and Canada's 2 starts only around $100 dollars more.
The 2 comes equipt with a FF 1.5L DOHC I-4 engine with VVT making 100hp and 98 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. If you want to row your own gears there is a 5 spd transmission available or you can go the lazy route and opt for the 4-speed automatic. I am a bit surprised that they are still offering a 4-speed when some newer sub-compacts offer 5-speeds like the Fit, or even a 6-speed in the Fiesta. Fuel economy numbers are pretty good rolling in at 7.2/5.6 for the manual and 7.3/5.8 for the slush-box.
If safety is paramount to you the 2 comes standard with traction and stability control, dual front airbags, side & curtain airbags as well as ABS. Inside its 15" rims you'll find discs up front and drums in back.
In the GX, A/C is an available option. A separate Convenience Package includes:
- Heated Door Mirrors
- 4 Speakers (only a paltry 2 are offered in the GX)
- Remote keyless entry
- Cruise Control
- Exterior Temperature Gauge
- Trip Computer
- Steering Wheel Mounted Audio Controls
- Silver Finish on Door Handles, Steering Wheel and shift plate bezel
- Body Coloured Door Handles and Mirrors
In talking with a local Mazda dealer we are looking at a June release for the Mazda 2 in Canada.
