Aston Martin Cygnet - A Tale of Triumph

There are many feel good stories every year, the Toyota iQ to Aston Martin Cygnet is one of these stories.  You see, the Toyota iQ used to be just a car for any humble person, it went about it's business, didn't ask anything from anybody, a commoners car without its nose tuned up to anyone.  It was happy it was going to be re-badged into a Scion.

When Aston Martin saw the iQ from its high road near Buckingham Palace, it slowed, stopped and took in the micro 3 door ragga muffin.  It thought, "you don't need to have those tarnished Toyota badges, or that nasty hard plastic in your interior",  they believed it was their obligation to use errr...lend a hand to the iQ, to tell the world it cared about the planet and lesser cars.

Aston Martin said to the iQ, "You are important to us, you matter, forget your weak former existence."  They have since gotten to work and stripped away the old grill and replaced it with it's signature grill and hood ornament, a badge worn by one of the most revered car manufacturers in the world.  Aston knew that a 1.3L 3 cylinder engine would generate heat, so it promptly added vents to the hood.  The rear lights had to go as well, now anyone behind a Cygnet may mistake it for a DB9.


The interior has been dashed with at least 2 hand-stitched cows, leather is on virtually everything and will be available in a variety of colours.  One would think that an iQ being reconstructed with such TLC would get overwhelmed, but it hasn't, a steady diet of Alcantara and aluminum have transformed a surf into a princess.  It even has a piano black iPod dock perched atop the centre stack which gazes commandingly at the driver. 


The iQ/Cygnet realizes this is its new reality, its actually happening for it, its gotten into the princes chariot and isn't going back to the streets.  It's the 4 seater micro sub-compact it's always wanted to be.  Aston will have 1000-2000 orphaned iQ's converted into Cygnets every year.  Cygnets will only be offered to existing Aston customers, so it will never have to look down upon other compacts in the multi-car garages it will be parked in.  It will always be clean and in a temperature controlled cocoon with other Astons.
