2012 Ford Focus ST |
The Focus ST brings a 2.0l 250hp with 265 lb-ft of torque turbo four to the mix instead of the previous (european only) generation 2.5l 5 cylinder. According to Ford, emissions are down a full 20% compared to the previous model as well.
It features a unique front fascia that is more aggressive than the base car as well as blistered side skirts that flow into the unique looking centre mounted dual exhaust.
The bright yellow paint on the car is a signature ST colour that will only be available for buyers of the ST.
The Focus ST's engine features direct injection as well as Twin-Independent Variable Cam timing to increase performance as well as improve efficiency. Ample amounts of torque should be available all the way through the rev range. Paired to the turbo charged power plant is a 6-Speed Transmission which has seen minor revisions to increase power in every ratio.
Engineers have put time and effort into making sure the Focus ST sounds the part by reworking a sound symposer that perhaps makes the car sound more balsy than it really is.
In addition to its power train tweaks there was also thought put into the chassis as well. Ford has decided to bless the ST with electric power steering which may, or may not, be a boon to it's steering feel. A torque steer control system was also implemented to handle the extra power being thrown to just the front wheels. It uses a torque vectoring system to better shove around the power thats being directed back and forth, similar to a limited slip differential.
Suspension changes come in the form of a lowering of the car by 10mm as well as beefed up suspension knuckles and reworked anti roll bars.
Putting that power to the pavement is easy with Focus ST flower pattern 18" rims with 235/40R18 Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric 2 tires.
Crack open the door and your greeted by a really nice two tone interior with accents that match the exterior colour of the car. Recaro bucket seats beacon your bottom to sit down and grasp the special pedals, steering wheel and gear lever.
