It's puzzling as of late some of the moves Honda makes. With sales dwindling and Hyundai breathing down their neck it makes you wonder why cars like this Civic Hatchback are not coming to North America.
Obviously a superior looking car to it's Coupe and Sedan counterparts across the pond here. The front has been redesigned and looks much more cohesive and smart looking with a sort of big eared animal silhouette to the grill and lights.
The lights appear to be projector bulb HID's and below are strips of LEDs that act as day time running lights. Sitting below the LEDs are a set of fog lights, you won't be short on illumination in this car. The grill is a svelte black that makes the lights and grill appear to be at one with itself.
The side silhouette of the car looks fantastic, a very forward leaning and purposeful stance with sculpted fenders flares to arching over the wheel wells. Handles for the rear doors are hidden in the corners of the windows so it appears as if this 5 door is actually a 3 door. Turn signal indicators are also included in the mirrors.
Around back semi boomerang indicator lights sweep around the belt line on either side, the corners tapering off into thin strips meeting together at the centre of the car. Below there is a see through area of tinted glass similar to the CRZ or Insight.
A shark fin esque radio antenna rests on the roof aft of the large all black sunroof that flows seamlessly from the front windscreen.
The interior doesn't appear to be drastically different from the other Civic's in it's class, but Honda has said it has made an attempt to improve interior quality and craftsmanship after it had its current models downgraded by Consumer Reports.
Changes to the suspension include a heavy re-working of the torsion beam suspension to improve body movement and overall driving quality.
Under the hood you'll find 2.2l i-DTEC engine outputting 150HP with fewer emissions.
The Honda Civic Hatchback will cruise onto dealer lots in Europe early next year. We don't think any petitioning from us will get Honda to change their mind on bringing the Civic Hatch here.
Sigh...guess we'll just have to settle for Hyundai bringing their new i30/Elantra Tourer here. But thats just how things have gone with Honda as of late.

The euro civic is not coming to North America because Honda knows we buy boring, uninspired designs instead. We tend not to demand the flair in car designs that Europeans demand. Also, most of us are overweight and buy stupid-looking oversized cars and SUVs to accommodate our fat asses!
